Memorial for Hana

Our good friend, Luna and Loki's Mom (Jenny) from the Eskie Board, is coordinating a Memorial for Hana. If anyone wishes to make donations in Hana's memory, you can contact Jenny at the following email address: mailto:hanamemorial@gmail.com Jenny can provide more information to you. Please do not feel obligated to make a donation. The Memorial for Hana will help doggies in need.

Thank You

We want to thank all of you for your messages of support during this difficult time. Hana passed away one week ago today. The house is very quiet without her. There are so many things that remind us of her. When we look over at the window ledge, she should be there spying on all the neighbors. When we're getting food to eat, she'd be glued to our side, her hot breath at our knee, begging politely for treats. When we're watching TV in the family room, she'dsit close by, but just far enough so we can't touch her since she liked her elbow room. When we're at In-N-Out, she'd be sitting in the back seat, drooling for french fries. When we're getting ready for bed, she'd be in her little bed next to ours, making cute little loud snores.

All the tributes to Hana... what can I say... it's been overwhelming to know how much she meant to so many of you. We are thankful to know you and honored to be a part of Dogs With Blogs. We owe a special thank you to Ender, Hana's nephew, for introducing us to the dog blogging world. And a special thanks to Casper D Dog, for introducing us to the Eskie Board. It was because of them that we learned about and became part of this wonderful dog (and cat, and hamsterrier) group, and we have a record of so many of the dogventures Hana took us on.

We have not posted anything since we made the difficult announcement, but we have seen the tributes to Hana and we'll be thanking each and every one of you when we are more up for posting. Your phone calls, messages, tributes and support mean so much to us. We can only hope that Hana is looking down on us so that she knows how much she meant to all of you.

During this past week, we've been in constant emotional turmoil, reviewing the events that occurred on that evening and questioning our decision. After talking to a number of you, we believe we made the right decision, though we still keep second guessing ourselves. We did NOT want Hana to suffer. She led a good life, and as her parents, it was our responsibility to help her go peacefully. It was such a difficult decision to make. We don't wish that on anyone.

Tonight we picked up Hana's ashes. They are in a little wood box, with her name on it, that sits on our nightstand. We also have her paw print in clay and a lock of her fur. Her collar and leash also sit on our nightstand.

Thank you so much for caring about our little furbaby, Hana the Dog. We will miss her greatly and will never forget her. She brought so much joy to us. She was the sparkle in our lives.

Hana Has Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

It's with great sadness to announce to my friends and fellow bloggers that Hana passed away in the early morning on Friday. She was 9 years old.

Hana had been having trouble breathing, among other things, late Thursday night. At the ER, they put her in an oxygen kennel. She hardly had a pulse. The xrays and ultrasound showed fluid around her heart and a large round mass embedded in a chamber in her heart. It was an aggressive form of cancer that doesn't reveal itself until it bursts and is pretty much too late.

Just prior in the day, when I had gotten home, Hana was just fine. She was excited when I entered the house and was her usual self, politely begging for food while we were eating dinner. In the late evening, her decline was sudden and unexpected, and happened in just a matter of a few hours.

We will miss our baby Hana with all our heart. She was the spark of our lives. The house is quiet without the pitter patter of her little footsteps.

So, Kathy, and everyone else, with your new eskie yarn, be sure you make a keepsake of your two. Or tuck away a ball of eskie yarn for safekeeping. Or have Casper's Mom make an doggie doll filled with your doggie's fur. Or make a paw print ornament or stepping stone with your fur baby. A week ago I started buying supplies to make stepping stones of Hana's footprints over the Thanksgiving break. But now it's too late.

Here's the very last photo I took of her

On that same night, which was 6 days before she passed, I took this video of her when the kids came by for Trick-or-Treating. This reflects her pretty accurately. She was certainly a barker, that's for sure, and that night we decided to just let her bark all she wanted.

Hana the Buttereskie

I have recently been complaining about how my Mom always dresses me up YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR as Mickey Mouse for Howl-o-weenie. It's pathetic I have to be Mickey Mouse ALL THE TIME, especially when I'm a GIRL, not a BOY!

Here is a photo of me from last year (or was that the year before or the year before that?):

My bestest friend, Siku, heard my tails tales of woe, and she and her Mom made my dreams come true!! They knew I've always wanted to be a butterfly, so they sent me a present! Butterfly wings!! The wings are pastel colored and very sparkly. Now I can flitter and flutter and float! An added bonus is no one will mistake me for a BOY anymore.

Mom, you're not sneaking up on me with a butterfly net, are you?

I fluttered my way down to the foliage, just like real butterflies do

My friend saw me wearing my new wings, and she asked if I was a Buttereskie. I think I will call myself a Buttereskie! It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Thank you Siku! I love my new wings!

Signed,
Hana the Buttereskie
